A Blog About Creating a Blog? Count Me In!
Blogging is booming right now. Many people follow blogs for different reasons. Some people want to see a blog about cats, others want to see a blog about cooking, and others just want to see a blog about current events. There is no shortage of blogs. With that being said, a blogger must understand how to attract new clients to your business. An effective blogger must know, like with any publication, your main components are your headline, and your copy. Clearly writing a great title to your blog will help determine how many people will ultimately read your great article. In the next few paragraphs I will review some of the main topics of J. Coffy’s Article Writing Effective Blog Headlines in 7 Steps. The first topic I will review is to be clear, and keep it short. The second topic I will review is how to let your passion show. And the last topic I will review is how to solve problems, ask Questions and be controversial.
Be Clear and Keep it Short
A great headline on your blog post can be the compelling force that will provoke a prospective reader into a customer (Coffy, 2013). That is why you want to be clear in your headline. Your readers are looking for information to help them accomplish something. Make it clear that you are an expert in what you are writing about, and supply them with what they need. Keep it short! Unfortunately, people do not have the best attention span nowadays. If your title is too wordy or drawn out, it has potential to drive readers away immediately (Coffy, 2013). A longer title can differ the attention of the reader to something else, therefore keep your title to 60-70 characters.
Let your Passion Show
Having the skill to be a great headline writer is critical to the ultimate success of your blog (Coffy, 2013). Let your passion show in this! In everything you do in life, especially in regards to blogging, being passionate allows you to perform better. (Coffy, 2013). When you love what you are writing about, your title, and writing will naturally show your joy. This is a type of sales concept. Being passionate will allow the audience to hear your joy.
Solve Problems, Ask Questions and Be Controversial
Most people searching the internet today are looking for a way to solve a problem. If you can relate your title to a commonly faced dilemma in your industry, more people are going to read it (Coffy, 2013). Another way to draw the attention of the reader is by asking an open ended question in your blog headline. Asking a question in the headline will not only engage the reader, and keep them searching for your answer, but they will more likely to become a new client. The last tip in creating an engaged reader in the header is to write a blog implementing modern and trendy topics in your blog post headline. People are drawn to controversy. The more controversial subjects you write about the more you will attract them. It is very important to do it wisely to ensure you do not offend at least half of the people reading your blog. Check out Skinny Confidential for a great example of a successful yet controversial blog.
To conclude, I would like to reiterate the importance of creating a strong headline by being clear, letting your passion show, and solving problems, asking questions, and being controversial. This will keep your readers engaged throughout the entire blog post. Doing this effectively will create a new audience, and help you become a more educational blogger. By doing this you will create a phenomenal heading, and a fantastic blog!
